Discarded

I was a chocolate you rolled on your tongue

and smiled at my savor,

But you spat me out carelessly on the walk

before you knew whether my center

was almond, cherry, or marzipan.

I was a line of coke someone offered you at a party

and you sniffed to be sociable

But it wasn't your rush

because you were still looking

for a high of your own.

I was an agate you found on the beach

and tossed in the water

instead of polishing me with loving fingers

in the warm darkness

of your pocket.
